Police clear suspicious parcel from US Embassy
Police bomb disposal experts have safely removed a suspicious package from the grounds of the US Embassy in Stockholm.
Police said the embassy had requested them to take care of the package, which arrived on Tuesday morning, although there was no indication of a specific threat.
“The Embassy received a suspicious package and our security team took appropriate action by alerting the Swedish authorities," embassy spokesperson Robert Hilton told The Local.
“We believe the situation is under control and appreciate the quick response by the police."
Hilton added that the embassy didn't believe anyone was in any immediate danger, but that the response was part of the embassy's normal security procedures when dealing with suspicious packages.
As far as Hilton knew, the package was not connected to any recognized or previously known threat against the embassy or the United States.
Bomb technicians succeeded in removing the package around 1:30pm, allowing embassy staff to once again move freely about the facility.
