“She is now at her sister’s in Finland,” Norbotten police spokesperson Petra Freudenthal told the Metro newspaper.

The girl was reportedly forced into a dark blue BMW car near a bus station on Saturday in central Haparanda, a small town in northern Sweden close to the Finnish border.

Police classified the case as a suspected kidnapping following an eye witness report of the incident.

The girl's mother, who had originally reported her daughter missing on Saturday, called authorities again on Sunday evening to say the girl was now with her sister.

The girl had been found in Mikkeli, a town 230 kilometres north east of the Finnish capital of Helsinki.

Police are still uncertain as to circumstances surrounding the apparent abduction.

“Currently, we don’t know why she was taken away, but it’s still being classified as a kidnapping,” said Freudenthal.

She added that police plan to launch an investigation and will interview the girl as soon as she returns to Sweden.
