'I guess it'll be a cold cement floor for me tonight'
Scores of travellers at Stockholm’s Arlanda Express train station were confronted with the news of widespread delays and cancellations for flights leaving from Sweden's largest airport on Monday.
Although the Arlanda Express itself is not experiencing any delays, many are turning back once arriving at the station platform after learning that their onward flights have been cancelled.
Even for those whose planes seem to be flying, concerns remain as to whether that will still be the case once they arrive at the airport.
One traveller who had more than enough of the disruptions was Marcus from Gothenburg, who explained to The Local the “terrible journey” he has had so far.
“I was meant to catch a plane this morning from Gothenburg to Stockholm but that was cancelled so I was told to take the train. But the automatic ticket machines for the train weren’t working in either Gothenburg or Stockholm so I can’t print off my e-ticket. So I’m expecting to have to pay again for this train journey.
“I’m trying to catch a plane to Bangkok in three hours but as I’m not even at the airport yet, it’s not looking hopeful. I guess it’ll be a cold cement floor for me tonight.”
Other concerned faces in the crowd were Rickard and Martin, who were desperately trying to get to Copenhagen.
“We tried to fly yesterday, but our flight was cancelled. We don’t know yet if this flight today will go ahead, but it doesn’t look so good.
“We are trying to get to Copenhagen to then fly on to Bangkok. We have already missed our original flight to Bangkok yesterday and who knows if we will be able to get another today”.
