At present, police won’t say whether they have any suspects or have made any arrests, although they have been knocking on doors in the area near where the area where the man was found.

“It happened in the middle of a residential neighbourhood, so we hope that someone may have seen something,” said Umeå police spokesperson Peder Jonsson to the TT news agency.

Although police have classified the crime as murder, Jonsson refused to divulge any information regarding possible suspects or arrests.

“We, as a principle, don’t do that in such a situation and when it involves such a serious crime,” he said.

According to Dan Andersson of the Umeå police, a neighbour called police after finding blood in the stairwell of the apartment building.

“Judging by the injuries, it appears that he was subjected to a great deal of violence,” Anderssson told TT.
