"I have asked the court to remand him in custody. The court will hear the matter tomorrow (Tuesday)," prosecutor Rolf Hillegren told AFP on Monday.

Wassouf is accused of being in possession "of a few grams" of cocaine, Hillegren said, adding that if convicted he could face "a few months" in prison.

The singer was arrested Saturday in a police raid at a Stockholm hotel just hours before he was due to perform in a concert.

The daily Aftonbladet reported that he was in possession of 30 grams of cocaine when he was arrested, though neither police nor the prosecution would comment on the report.

Wassouf, who moved to Lebanon as a child, is a star in the Arab world with more than 30 albums to his name.
