A Magdeburg clothing store that carries the “Thor Steinar” brand favoured by German neo-Nazis must close its doors after a higher regional court rejected an appeal to an earlier eviction ruling on Tuesday.

The store, called “Narvik,” has rented space in a historical building built by Austrian architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser since July 2007. On February 13, the Magdeburg regional court heard an eviction case against the store from the building’s owner, Catholic housing organization St. Gertrud, which said the retailers had been deceptive about its wares before they signed their lease. They did not include “Thor Steinar” on its list of products.

The court ruled that the store was required to inform the landlord of what they were selling.

The label favoured by right-wing extremists has made headlines several times recently. A Berlin store that carried the brand was forced to close by court order two weeks ago, and violent protests closed another shop in Hamburg in early October. Meanwhile a Leipzig court is set to rule on the possible closure of another store offering “Thor Steinar” goods on November 13.
