Carolin Stenvall 'may have been shot'
Prosecutors believe that 29-year-old Carolin Stenvall's death can not have resulted from a push, as the main suspect has claimed.
The Piteå woman's body showed signs of physical violence, according to prosecutor Ulrika Schönbeck.
Stenvall disappeared on Friday, September 12th and her abandoned car was found the following day at a rest area outside of Gällivare in northern Sweden.
Earlier this month, police arrested 50-year-old Toni Alldén on suspicions of having killed Stenvall. After first denying involvement, Alldén later admitted he was involved with the woman’s death, but claimed it was an accident.
Stenvall’s body was found in a wooded area south of Gällivare. A post mortem examination is scheduled to be carried out on Tuesday.
But prosecutor Ulrika Schönbeck has ruled out the likelihood that Alldén's push resulted in an unfortunate fall that led to Stenwall's death.
When asked whether it was possible Stenvall had been shot, Schönbeck told news agency TT: "It's possible. That's all I can say."
Schönbeck added that, while she did not wish to speculate on the cause of death, there were several aspects of Alldén's version of events that did not ring true.
"Why didn't he call for help? Why did he move the body? Everything he did completely contradicts his account," she said.
