Hostilities between fans of the Hammarby and Djurgården football clubs flared up again later in the evening, leading to more arrests.

Around 200 supporters had gathered around 7:30pm to do battle in the Vasastan district of Stockholm.

Police officers on hand to monitor the situation found themselves in the firing line as well, having to dodge a number of objects thrown by rowdy hooligans.

By 8pm, more police had arrived and detained 76 people on suspicions of violent rioting.

“The 76 detainees were taken by bus to Hundudden near Gärdet [on the east side of the city]. You can say what you want about it being too close to the city, but we’re governed by current legislation and can’t take them farther away than that,” said police spokesperson Jens Wismar to the TT news agency.

After refueling at local pubs, the supporters met again around 9:30pm near Slussen, on the south side of the city.

“We arrested a further 14 people who have been taken to the Södermalm police station,” said Wismar.
