Lovesick Düsseldorf peacock does €2,900 in damage to car
The escapades of a Düsseldorf farmer's lovesick peacock will cost him €2,900 in damages after the creature mistook a neighbour's car for a competing suitor and attacked it in a fit of rage, the county court ruled on Tuesday.
The jealous lovebird saw his own reflection in the side of company vehicle belonging to a car dealership and attacked it with its beak and claws until the enemy's plumage disappeared into the scratches.
Repairs to the paint job must be covered by the bird's owner, who fought the court tooth and nail on the decision, claiming that he was not the bird's owner.
“My peacock is meek as a lamb and doesn't leave the farmyard,” he told the court.
