Beginner's luck for salmon fisherman

Ivrfan Hadzahmetovic from Hässleholm in southern Sweden couldn't believe his luck on Friday when he went salmon fishing for the first time. He hooked a fish weighing some 14.2 kilograms.

Hadzahmetovic had never been salmon fishing before but is sure to have become hooked when with his first cast, and after only 20 minutes wait, he got a bite on his line and was able to reel in the 14.2 kilogram giant.

This is reported to be the third largest line-fished salmon caught in the lake in modern times, according to local newspaper Laholms Tidning.

The largest ever salmon caught in Lagan was 20.8 kilograms. But this was caught at night during breeding.

Five years ago a salmon weighing in at 15.69 kilograms was caught and is to date the largest caught with a rod in the river. In August 2007 another weighing 15.54 kilograms was caught.
