Karlstad woman admits to patricide

The daughter to a 65-year-old man found dead in a house in Karlstad on Saturday has admitted that she suffocated her father to death. The woman has been held on suspicion of murder with an alternative charge of manslaughter.

Police were called to the house in a wealthy, leafy suburb of the western Swedish town Karlstad at around 5pm Saturday afternoon. When the police and ambulance staff arrived at the scene the 65-year-old was found already dead.

"He has been found dead in his residence, probably suffocated," Tomas Olsson for Karlstad police said on Saturday afternoon.

The man's daughter, who is in her twenties, has admitted to killing her father. Police were on Sunday as yet unable to indicate a motive for the crime.

According to local media reports, further interviews with the woman will be held later on Sunday and a remand hearing is to be be held on Monday morning at the earliest.

The woman is reported to be feeling unwell and has been placed in the care of the psychiatric clinic in Karlstad.

The house and garden in the quiet residential area were sealed off for police forensic investigation on Saturday afternoon and into Sunday.
