A 47-year-old Swedish man who travelled to the United States to have sex with what he thought was a 13-year-old girl has struck a plea bargain with prosecutors near Salt Lake City, Utah.

On Thursday, Björn Larsson pleaded guilty to one count of enticing a minor over the Internet, a second-degree felony, reports the Desert News newspaper.

In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors dismissed the remaining charge of dealing in harmful materials to a minor.

Larsson was sentenced to serve 60 days in the Davis County jail, after which he will be deported to Sweden.

"It is not Utah's intent to destroy his life in prosecuting this matter," deputy Davis County Attorney Richard Larsen told Desert News.

"Our intent is to impress upon him the seriousness of the acts."

Since June, Larsson had been engaged in sexually-charged internet chats which someone he thought was a 13-year-old girl.

The girl was in fact an undercover police officer.

In an attempt to cover up his US rendezvous, Larsson told wife and children that he was heading across the Atlantic to visit relatives.
