Sweden's largest trade union lays off staff

Swedish trade union organization Unionen has announced its intention to lay off 227 staff members. The union's Stockholm office is to be hardest hit.
Unionen is an entirely new trade union, formed by the amalgamation of the HTF and Sif trade unions on January 1st 2008.
According to Unionen's in-house newspaper Kollega, the goal is to have a total of 675 employees: 400 in the regions and 275 at the head office in Stockholm.
Unionen's chief secretary Nils-Åke Carlsson told the newspaper that their ambition was "that no-one need be unemployed. We strive towards not having to let anyone go".
Unionen is Sweden’s largest trade union on the private labour market. The trade union has representatives from over 65,000 companies and organizations in Sweden.
