Riding instructor convicted of child rape
A 32-year-old riding school teacher was sentenced to three years six months in prison in Stockholm on Tuesday for the child rape and sexual assault of three teenage pupils.
The man was ordered to pay 321,000 kronor in compensation to the three girls which he sexually abused.
The teenage girls were pupils at a riding school in Stockholm. The youngest of which was only 12-years-old at the time.
The man was reported to police by colleagues at the riding school after they heard rumours that something was going on. The man admitted having sex with one of the girls, and claims that she consented. He maintained that he was unsure of whether she was 15 or not.
Prosecutors argued that the man must either have known or strongly suspected that the girls were under the age of consent, which is 15 in Sweden. The conviction for child rape reflects the fact that the girls were too young to legally consent to sex.
According to the charges against the man, he had sex with the 14-year-old a number of times between November 2007 and May 2008.
