Man in custody for brutal slaying of Hjo woman
A 25-year-old man suspected of having killed a woman in Hjo last week was remanded to custody on Monday, despite denying the accusations.
On Friday of last week, a 22-year-old woman was found dead in her apartment in Hjo in south central Sweden.
She was the victim of extreme violence, according to information from police.
But police have chosen not to comment on what exactly may have happened.
The woman is believed to have died last Wednesday. Her two-year-old daughter was also in the apartment, leading to the assumption that the toddler spend two days alone with her dead mother.
A 25-year-old man was detained on Friday on suspicion of murder. On Monday afternoon he was remanded to custody by Skövde District Court on suspicion of manslaughter, not murder.
A gag order has been imposed on the parties in the case and the 25-year-old’s defence lawyer Fred Höweler couldn’t give any details about why the crime had been reclassified.
“It may have to do with the defence attorney’s arguments,” he told the TT news agency.
The suspect denies having committed any creim, but has admitted that he visited the woman’s apartment on Wednesday.
According to police, the man and the woman had met before Wednesday and had had contact over the internet and via text messages.
Before the court decision on a gag order, Höweler told Sveriges Radio that blood was found on the suspects clothes.
He had received the information from crime scene investigators, but as of Monday night couldn’t comment further.
“My client has given a plausible explanation,” he said.
