Voigt calls for end to debate over Obama's Germany visit
The debate over presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s visit to Germany should have an end, according to Karsten Voigt, government coordinator for German-American relations.
German candidates for chancellor also travel to Washington to meet with the US president, Voigt told Dortmund daily Ruhr Nachrichten on Tuesday, adding that the visit should be an important symbol for German-American relations.
“There is a big chance that Barack Obama will choose Berlin, and not Paris or London, to lay out his vision for European-American relations,” Voigt told the paper.
Certainly Obama’s visits to Baghdad and Kabul are more important, Voigt added, saying that Germany is still interesting for him as a country willing to work to end global conflicts.
