Summer will likely return soon to Germany, but not before chilly low pressure systems Yvonne and Xandra get the last laugh this weekend, the German Weather Service (DWD) reported on Friday.

After the two fronts carrying cold North Sea air take their leave, the DWD says it expects a change "headed clearly for prime summer weather."

As soon as Saturday morning Germany could see a warmer weather in the south and southeast, but don't break out the grill just yet - cooler weather will roll in again before evening, bringing clouds, rain and thunderstorms.

The storms and changeable weather will remain on Sunday, with high temperatures between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius.

Monday will still be unseasonably cool and depressing with thunderstorms in the northwest. Down south the sun will finally begin to shine late in the day, bringing what the DWD hopes will be the long-awaited homecoming of biergarten weather.
