A last minute getaway for 59-year-old Åke Johanesson and his 57-year-old wife Majny had a sting its tail when the couple arrived at the airport.

The couple had booked their holiday on the internet and not familiar with the medium they managed to mix up the similar sounding place names of Rijeka and Reykjavik. The couple realised their mistake just before their plane took off but true to their spirit of adventure elected to travel anyway.

The couple arrived in the Croatian port town of Rijeka with their bags packed with warm clothes intended for the decidedly cooler climes of Iceland's capital.

The couple are now staying in Njivice on the island of Krk and are enjoying temperatures of around 30 degrees centigrade.

According to local newspaper Croatian Times the couple have fallen in love with their unexpected holiday destination and plan to return to Croatia in the very near future.

The couple's amused children meanwhile have instructed them to avoid booking over the internet in the future.
