It’s the season for blood-sucking ticks
Damp weather in recent weeks means that ticks are especially active, increasing the possibility that one can be bitten.
Areas around Lake Mälaren and south-west of Stockholm are high-risk areas for tick bites, which can result in serious diseases. Ticks feed by perching in low vegetation and waiting for a susceptible host on which they can attach and feed.
Hillevi Öhlin in the County of Södermanland, who was infected by ticks with Lyme disease last year, says that she has already discovered two of the insects on her body.
“Ticks like me. I am careless and like to creep around in the flowerbeds,” she told regional newspaper Södermanlands Nyheter.
“It is important to shower afterwards.”
