Riding school teacher 'raped pupils'
A riding teacher from Stockholm raped two of his teenage pupils, prosecutors have alleged. The girls were aged 13 and 14 when they were allegedly raped by the 32-year-old teacher.
The man, who taught at a riding school in Stockholm was charged on Monday with two counts of child rape. The 13-year-old was allegedly raped in late 2007 at a hotel in the capital. According to the charge sheet, the man had sex with the 14-year-old a number of times between November 2007 and May 2008.
Prosecutors say that the man must either have known or strongly suspected that the girls were under the age of consent, which is 15 in Sweden. The charge of child rape reflects the fact that the girls were too young to legally consent to sex.
The man was reported to police by colleagues at the riding school after they heard rumours that something was going on. The man has admitted having sex with the older of the two girls, and claims that she did so willingly. He said he was unsure whether she was 15 or not.
The riding teacher's 19-year-old half-brother has been charged with sexual molestation of a child for having sex with the same 14-year-old girl. The riding teacher himself faces an additional charge of aggravated sexual molestation over an incident in Norrköping ten years ago, in which he allegedly had sex with a 12-year-old girl.
The men will go on trial in Stockholm on July 14th.
