Swede held in Colombia thought to still be alive
The family of a 69-year-old Swedish man being held captive in Colombia has received a letter they claim confirms their father is still alive.
On May 16th of 2007 the man and his Colombian partner were taken from their home by armed men. After a few days the woman escaped.
The man’s children are convinced that their father was taken by Farc guerrillas and suspect that the woman was an accomplice to the kidnapping, according to the Piteå-Tidningen newspaper.
The children recently received what they believe is a reliable sign from their father.
“Through contacts we were able to get a letter to the jungle with questions only he could answer, like what sort of boat motor he last purchased when he was in Sweden. Two weeks later we received an answer and we are 100 percent sure that he wrote it,” said the man’s son.
In a few days the children will try to send along a new letter to their father.
The letter has renewed their hope that their father will eventually be released.
