Missing Swede found dead in Bali
Indonesian authorities have confirmed that they have recovered the body of a 23-year-old Swedish man reported missing in Bali over a month ago.
Algot Backlund is believed to have drowned more than four weeks ago, according to the Swedish foreign ministry.
Backlund is thought to have landed on the Indonesian island on April 3rd. He was reported missing after failing to make it to a scheduled rendezvous with a group of friends. Interpol soon became involved in the search.
He was found dead on a beach at the Kuta holiday resort on April 7th but his family and Swedish authorities were not informed until Tuesday this week.
There seems to have been a breakdown in communication between the morgue and the police. That's why we haven't been informed," Backlund's mother, Helene Parment Hellsing, told Aftonbladet.
Foreign ministry spokeswoman Petra Hansson said there were no indications of foul play.
"But it hasn't been fully investigated yet," she said.
