Ferry boat captains to go on strike
Captains for archipelago ferry boats in Gothenburg and Stockholm will walk off their jobs at midnight on Monday night.
On Monday afternoon, negotiations between the boat captains union, the Swedish Ship Officers' Association (SSOA), and the Almega employers association broke off without an agreement as to how large the pay increase for captains of archipelago boats would be.
“The captains are standing by demands which are simply too high. 10.2 percent in three years is no problem, but they are demanding about 3 percent more. There’s no way for us to give that to them,” said Carl-Erik Setterberg, chief negotiator for the Almega employers association, to the TT news agency.
A total of 27 boats will be taken out of service in connection with the strike.
Companies affected include AB Göteborg-Styrsö Skärgårdstrafik, Strömma Turism & Sjöfart, Utö Rederi AB, Blidösundsbolaget, Stockholms Sjötrafik AB and Tema Shipping/Tema Skärgården.
Passengers can expect significant schedule disruptions for archipelago boat traffic.
While some boats will be in service, others will remain docked, including much of the harbour traffic in Gothenburg, which carries thousands of people to and from work every day, as well as the Djurgården ferries in Stockholm.
