11-year-old girl films child rape

A film sequence captured on an 11-year-old girl's mobile phone is to be used as evidence when a 69-year-old Malmö man stands trial for the alleged rape of a minor.

The girl's 10-year-old friend is believed to have been subjected to repeated cases of sexual abuse at the hands of the Malmö man.

The 10-year-old's mother first began to suspect that something was awry after coming across a secret exchange of notes between the two young girls, Sydsvenskan reports.

"She then pressed her daughter on the issue and found out what had been happening," prosecutor Jörgen Larsson told the newspaper.

The 69-year-old is alleged to have raped the girl on a number of occasions both at his home and at his allotment.

"What makes the case a bit unusual is that the girl's friend filmed parts of one incident on her mobile phone and I will show these in court," said Larsson.

The prosecutor added that the footage was of poor quality but the environment was identifiable as the man's home.

The 69-year-old was arrested in early March after the 10-year-old's mother reported her suspicions. He remains in custody.

The 10-year-old girl identified the man as her attacker in police questioning. A medical examination provided further support for the girl's version of events.

The suspect denies committing an offence.
