Orderly charged for forced genital shaving
A 65-year-old male care giver was charged on Wednesday in Borås District Court in western Sweden for forcibly shaving the pubic hair of a handicapped woman, writes the Expressen newspaper.
When the shaving took place in April of last year, the woman was residing in an assisted living facility where the man was an employee.
He defended his actions by saying that he shaved the woman for hygiene reasons.
“Yes, that’s his attitude; that it was easier to maintain her hygiene,” said prosecutor Stefan Johansson to the TT news agency.
According to the indictment, the 65-year-old orderly held the woman’s legs apart and shaved her genital area. Due to her physical condition, the woman was incapable of defending herself.
According to a report written following the event, two other people were present during the incident.
“Then a complaint was filed and the ball has been rolling since then,” said Johansson.
The former caregiver has been fired from his job at the facility and is charged with suspicion of sexual coercion, which carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison.
