Four of the five teenage boys charged with trespassing in connection with the incident that lead to the shooting of a 15-year-old boy in Rödeby have been sentenced to community service.

The moped-riding teenagers were found to have infringed on the property of the 50-year-old man who shot and killed one of the boys and injured another in a small community in southern Sweden on the evening of October 6th last year.

The 17-year-old boy wounded in the incident had six months added to a previous probational sentence after being found guilty of trespassing, making threats and drunk driving.

Prosecutor Bengt Iwars was happy with the verdict, which sentenced three of the boys to 20 hours and a fourth to 25 hours of community service.

"It was mainly pleasing that they were convicted for trespassing. It shows the youths that they can't go in and act like this at night," he told news agency TT.

The injured 17-year-old and a second boy were also found guilty of spraying the family's car. The 17-year-old was further found to have kicked the mother's moving car and to have opened the door of her car while she was driving.

He was also convicted of threatening her with a wooden log he raised aloft as she drove up to the housing shortly before the shooting.

The boy's lawyer argued that he was acting in self-defence as he was afraid of being run over.

The court rejected this explanation since the boy himself chose to come crawling out of the bushes as the car approached. The boy also previously said that the car had come to a halt.

The boys told the court that they had agreed to meet the 50-year-old's son and had arrived at the farm by invitation. They also said that nobody told them to leave the farm while they were there.

The family's lawyer however likened the boys' journey on their mopeds to a punishment expedition. They travelled to the farm after one of them, the injured 17-year-old, was assaulted by an acquaintance of the family, he said.
