In an email to the committee, Schenström said that she was "turning down the request", Svenska Dagbladet reports.

Schenström was forced to resign on November 1st last year after she was found to have consumed a large quantity of alcohol on an evening when she was on call for the government's crisis management organization.

Green Party spokesman Peter Eriksson reported the matter to the constitutional committee in order to find out more about the government's readiness for a potential crisis on the evening in question.

Morgan Johansson of the opposition Social Democrats was deeply critical of Schenström's refusal to appear at the hearing.

"She was the kingdom's top political civil servant. It's quite remarkable," he told Svenska Dagbladet.
