Rödeby murder suspect ruled mentally ill
The 50-year-old man suspected of murder and attempted murder in the Rödeby shooting drama last autumn suffered from a serious mental disorder at the time of the incident according to an opinion made public by the National Board of Health and Welfare on Thursday.
The Board’s Legal Secretariat also found that the man continues to suffer from mental problems.
The finding means that the court can now sentence the man to psychiatric care.
The opinion of the Board goes against the forensic psychiatric investigation performed earlier on the 50-year-old, which concluded the man suffered a mental ailment at the time of the shootings, but not afterward.
That meant that he couldn’t be sentenced to psychiatric care or to prison and that another psychiatric evaluation was necessary.
The 50-year-old is accused of killing a 15-year-old boy and seriously wounding his 17-year-old friend, both of whom were part of a gang of youths who had encroached on the man's property and had repeatedly threatened the man's son.
Five youths have also been indicted for trespassing and other charges related to the incident and the alleged harassment which led up to the shooting.
