It is the second year in a row that Google has topped the list compiled by communications firm Universum. The firm's annual "company barometer" is based on a survey of 15,000 college and university students.

Engineering students put Google at the top of the pile, with the company also performing well among business students.

For the sixth year running, Ikea was the employer of choice for business students, while Sony Ericsson passed out last year's winner Ericsson when civil engineers expressed a preference.

H&M and SEB bank were the big movers on the business students' list, with the fashion giant leaping from sixth to second place and SEB climbing from thirteenth to sixth.

Law students said they would like nothing more than to slip behind a desk at the foreign ministry.

Technology students took a liking this year to Saab (up from eleventh to fourth) and Vattenfall (up from twelfth to sixth).
