Left Party supports file sharing

The Left Party’s governing board wants to allow the downloading of copyrighted films and music for personal use.

The current ban requires too large a system of surveillance and control, writes the governing board in a response to a motion to the party congress.

The board also believes that it ought to be allowed to make copyrighted material accessible over the internet as long as it isn’t used commercially.

At the same time, the Green Party board feels there is a need for some sort of system of economic compensation for copyright holders.

A few years ago, only the Green Party and the Centre Party voted against a Riksdag motion to forbid the downloading of film and music.

Altogether, an uncharacteristically low total of 324 motions have been put forward head of the Left Party congress, to be held in Norrköping on June 6th to 8th.
