Public Health Minister stalked by mentally ill man
Police have increased security around Public Health Minister Maria Larsson after she was confronted in her home by a man who recently underwent court ordered psychiatric care.
The 42-year-old man was convicted for attempted murder after stabbing a man in the back in Gothenburg in 2000.
During the trial the man claimed he was an FBI-agent and that he acted in self-defence against several men armed with guns.
According to the Aftonbladet newspaper, the County Administrative Court decided to end the man’s psychiatric car at the end of January this year.
Several weeks later, the 42-year-old attempted to gain entry into Larsson’s home in Gnosjö in the southern Swedish region of Småland.
According to Aftonbladet’s information, the man believed he was the minister’s son.
He was taken into custody and brought to a Gothenburg psychiatric clinic where he remains locked up.
“He is obviously delusional. It doesn’t feel good to know that someone like him was free to move about,” said public prosecutor Ebba Idunger, who had appealed the court’s decision to revoke the man’s care.
After the break in, Sweden’s security service Säpo gave the local police instructions to increase the security around Larsson’s house.
