The interior ministry for the German state of Saxony-Anhalt has banned a violent right-wing extremist fan group for the first time.

The group, which calls itself the "Blue White Street Elite" and comes from the Jerichower Land county, has been watched by authorities since 2007, said state Interior Minister Holger Hövelmann in Magdeburg on Tuesday. Many group members are also fans of 1. FC Magdeburg, a regional football team with blue and white jerseys.

Core group members are between 18 and 25-years-old who have repeatedly engaged in aggressive brawls. At 1. FC Magdeburg home and away games, the group has often engaged in violence with rival fans.

Their crimes have involved breach of public peace, property damage, dangerous bodily injury, and resisting police.

Hövelmann said that some members of the group are on police registers for right-wing extremist crimes. The group is known to have recruited members from the neo-Nazi extremist group "Weisse Aktivisten Jerichower Land," or White Activists from Jerichower Land.
