Demonstrators rally outside Chinese embassy in Stockholm
Some 50 protesters demonstrated outside China's embassy in Stockholm on Monday to denounce Beijing's crackdown on demonstrations against its controversial rule in Tibet.
The group, comprising mainly Swedes and a few Tibetans, carried Tibetan flags and chanted slogans, and waved banners reading "Tibet belongs to Tibetans" and "Stop Killing in Tibet", an AFP journalist at the scene said.
"We're demonstrating to show solidarity and support for the peaceful civilian demonstrations in Tibet that have been going on for several days where many people have sacrificed their lives," a spokesman for the Tibetan community in Stockholm, Tashi Wangyal, told AFP.
"China must show respect for its citizens and for human rights," he said.
Violent protests broke out in the Tibetan capital Lhasa on Friday, the most serious protests in the predominantly Buddhist region for 20 years.
China on Monday warned Tibetan protesters to quickly surrender.
