Swedish town returns junk mail to senders

Officials in a small Swedish town have tired of receiving junk mail and are now returning any unwanted post to the sender with a note explaining the local council's environmental policy.

The move covers all unsolicited advertising material sent to the town hall in Flen, a town located 120 kilometres south of Stockholm.

"It's worth the postage costs if we are to communicate with the senders about this. It's also about creating awareness about the waste of resources," said spokeswoman Linda Aldebert in a statement.

The town said it had also requested Eniro not to send its phone books to the town hall any more as all the information was readily available on the internet.
