Ikea recalls chairs to stop kids falling down

Swedish furniture giant Ikea has recalled 3,600 high chairs sold in Europe because of a construction fault that could cause children to fall down, the company said on Thursday.

"We recalled 3,600 chairs ... produced and sold in January and February 2008," Ikea spokeswoman Ivana Hrdlikova told AFP.

The wooden chairs were sold in 22 countries across Europe.

A security bar fixed to the front of the chair, designed to prevent children from falling to the ground, has in some cases come loose though no accidents have been reported, Hrdlikova said.

The chairs were sold primarily in Sweden, France, Belgium, Spain, Russia and Turkey.

In addition to withdrawing the chairs, Ikea has decided to stop selling the product.
