On January 2nd, a 36 year-old-man reported his 26-year-old wife missing. Police suspected the man early on and remanded him into custody last Saturday on suspicions of murder.

Police got a breakthrough in the case on Monday afternoon when the body of a dead woman was discovered in a wooded area near Fjällnora outside of Uppsala.

“We believe that the body is that of the missing woman. But her identity has not yet been confirmed nor has the cause of death,” Christer Nordström, spokesperson for the Uppsala police, said to news agency TT.

Police had looked in the area several times before with the help of search dogs.

Nordström was tight-lipped when asked about the circumstances around how the body was found. He did not want to reveal whether the body was buried or hidden in some way.

“I can’t say anything about how things looked at the scene where the body was found,” he said.

The 36-year-old man and his attorney Stefan Wallin have been informed that the body of a woman was found.

The man has earlier denied committing any crime. His attorney wouldn’t say whether the suspect had now changed his position.

“For the time being I can’t comment on his attitude. I’ve received a gag order from the prosecutor,” said Wallin.

In addition to the man already in custody, a 22-year-old man is also suspected of involvement in the murder. He’s being held on suspicions of protecting a criminal and crimes against the peace of a burial place.

On Monday the prosecutor filed a detention order request for the 22-year-old.

“Custody hearings will take place on Tuesday,” said Nordström.
