Police criticized in Rödeby case
Karlskrona's social services department has wiped its hands of responsibility for the events that led to the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old boy in Rödeby in October last year.
In an internal report published on Monday, the department claimed it had only been aware of one of the five reports of harassment received by police from a family in the small town of Rödeby.
The department said that neither it nor any other local government agencies had been informed by police of the extent of the alleged harassment.
In a case that has reverberated across Sweden, a 15-year-old boy was shot dead and a 17-year-old boy was seriously wounded after they encroached on the property of a 50-year-old man whose son had been bullied over a long period by a group of moped riding youngsters.
The 50-year-old man has been indicted on a murder charge, while the boys accused of hassling the family over a period of several years are to go to trial on trespassing charges.
The social services department's internal inquiry was based on an analysis of the files in the case as well as interviews with the families affected and all civil servants involved in the case.
The report is to be passed on to the County Administrative Board, which will evaluate the department's findings.
