Klüft pulls out of world indoors with thigh injury

Sweden's Carolina Klüft, the current Olympic, world (three-time) and European (twice) heptathlon champion, has pulled out of next month's world indoor championships because of injury.

"Unfortunately, she will not be at the (March 7-9) world championships in Valencia, Spain," Swedish athletics federation doctor Sverker Nilsson told AFP.

"She has a tear in the muscle in her right thigh," the doctor said, adding a scan on Friday had revealed some bleeding.

Klüft, 25, pulled out of the Stockholm indoor meeting on Thursday because of cramping in her right thigh.

The athlete will rest up over the coming days and then resume training for the Olympic Games in Beijing in August, according to the doctor.
