Winslet is due to start filming in Berlin in the spring. The British star will replace the pregnant Nicole Kidman. Winslet is scheduled to come to Berlin for a costume fitting in the end of February, and filming should start in March, a source involved in the production of The Reader told Berliner Zeitung.

The shooting of the film started in mid-October and leading man Ralph Fiennes is already filming in Berlin. Studio Babelsberg, a prominent German film studio neighbouring Berlin, is a co-producer of the film.

The Reader is based on a book by law professor and judge Bernhard Schlink about a baby boomer and his affair with a former SS guard.
