74-year-old jailed for child rape

A 74-year-old man was jailed by a court in southern Sweden on Friday for raping an eight-year-old girl.
The court in Jönköping, 324 kilometres south of Stockholm, found that the man had subjected the girl to "the equivalent of sexual intercourse." The attack took place in the courtyard of a building in the city.
The sentence was shorter than the recommended period of two years, due to the man's age and the fact that he had no previous convictions, according to Sveriges Radio.
The man has professed his innocence, saying he never even met the girl.
