Tobias Forsberg’s goal with just seven seconds left sank the three-time defending champions, stopping the Canadians’ tournament winning streak at 20 games.

Canada added to their 1-0 lead early in the third period before the Swedes sprang to life, scoring three straight goals in a four-minute span to take the lead 3-2.

Claude Giroux preserved Canada’s hopes of extending its tournament unbeaten streak to 21 games when he tied the game on a five-on-three goal with just under four minutes remaining.

But as overtime loomed, Mikael Backlund outmaneuvered the Canadian defense, feeding a perfect pass to the waiting Forsberg, who powered the game winner past Canadian net minder Jonathan Bernier.

The win gave Sweden the lead in Group A with nine total points. However, the team needs a victory in its final qualifying match against the Czech Republic to secure the Group’s top spot.
