Swedes confirm old adage that size doesn’t really matter
Combining their reputations as groundbreakers in matters of both science and sex, Swedes have now shown in recent studies that, in fact, size does not matter.
Or more accurately, that size doesn’t matter as much as hardness in determining bedroom satisfaction.
According to a new SIFO-poll of 688 Swedes, three fourths of women respondents agree that hardness is important for a happy sex life. Only 8 percent believe that size is the deciding factor.
And of nearly 1000 Swedish men who registered their opinions on the website potenslinjen.se, 98 percent also think that hardness is more important than size.
Residents of western Sweden were most bullish on the importance of hardness. In Gothenburg 96 percent of the SIFO-poll respondents considered themselves satisfied with their own or their partner’s firmness.
Meanwhile the stoic residents of northern Sweden don’t appear to be as stiff as many make them out to be, with nearly a third of those polled dissatisfied with erectile hardness.
The on-line poll also showed that nearly half the men classified themselves as unsatisfied with the firmness of their erections. The results suggest as well that men looking for more solid results in bed remain flaccid in their determination to improve matters by taking impotence drugs.
"A man who has problems with his erection can also have problems with sex drive. As a result hardness has great importance for many. But it's important to point out that one can also have a satisfying sex life without penetration," said Helena Cewers, an authorized sexologist from the Malmö Women’s Clinic.
And for those interested in seeing just how hard things really are, help is on the way. An international group of “sexperts” from various clinical professions including urologists and psychologists are working on a new system for measuring hardness.
The "Erection Hardness Score" (EHS) will consist of a 4-level scale with Stage 4 corresponding to full hardness and stiffness. It is hoped the new scale will provide more accurate diagnoses of patients suffering from impotence.
