A Danish football fan has been jailed for 20 days for attacking the referee at a Euro 2008 qualifier between Denmark and Sweden.

The ruling by the Copenhagen appeals court on Tuesday overturned the initial month's suspended sentence handed down on 29-year-old Ronni Nørvig in September.

Nørvig entered the pitch in the final minute of the international game in June that ended 3-3, hitting German referee Herbert Fander in the face.

Fander had just shown Danish defender Christian Poulsen a red card for punching Swedish player Markus Rosenberg in the stomach.

Nørvig was immediately arrested, and the shaken referee called off the game. European football's governing body, UEFA, later awarded Sweden a 3-0 victory.

The Swedes went on to qualify for Euro 2008 along with Group F winners Spain. Denmark, however, could only finish in fourth spot behind Northern Ireland and will miss out on next June's showpiece tournament in Austria and Switzerland.
