Cleaning firms willing to discriminate

Many Swedish cleaning firms would be prepared to discriminate against workers with an immigrant background, according to an informal survey carried out by Sveriges Radio.

Claiming to represent a company in need of someone to keep its office tidy, the radio station's local branches called 89 cleaning companies nationwide to request a non-immigrant cleaner. In all, 52 companies agreed to send along somebody who fit the description.

Six companies said that they would examine the possibility, while 31 companies said that they would not be willing to comply with the demand.

Several cleaning firms revealed that it was not entirely uncommon for customers to make specific ethnic demands when hiring a cleaner.
