While most big Swedish companies have environment policies requiring them to engage in development in that field, a new survey has shown that only one of 19 top executives drives an environmentally friendly car.

Ericsson's Michael Treschow was the greenest executive among the business leaders surveyed in an informal poll carried out by newspaper Dagens Nyheter. Treschow drives a Saab 9-5 Vectra Biopower that runs on ethanol.

Swedbank was the first bank to take into consideration positive environmental efforts when lending money, and Vice President, Jan Lindén has claimed to very involved in environmental issues in his private life.

But Lindén has been found not to drive an environmentally friendly car, which is classified as a vehicle that emits a maximum of 120 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer. Instead he drives a Lexus RX300 that lets out 311 grams per kilometer and an Audi A8 Quattro that lets out 312 grams.

Sverker Martin-Löf, who sits on the boards of several companies, has also been involved in tackling environmental issues. But he has not picked very environmentally friendly alternatives either. Martin-Löf drives a Jeep Grand Cherokee that lets out about 400 grams carbon dioxide per kilometer and a Chevrolet Tahoe that lets out 256 grams.

Ericsson's Vice President, Carl-Henric Svanberg, who talks up the importance of the environment on the company's web site, drives a BMV 645 that emits 279 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer.
