Young woman found dead in Uppsala student area
A young woman was found dead on Friday night in an apartment in Studentstaden, the student quarter of Uppsala. Police say they are not ruling out the possibility of a crime and have begun an investigation.
The circumstances surrounding the death prompted speculation that the woman had been the victim of violence, reported Upsala Nya Tidning's internet edition.
Per-Erik Eriksson, police spokesman in Uppland, declined to give further details of the direction the police enquiry was taking.
"In order to explore all possibilities we will carry out a forensic investigation," he said.
The woman was found just before 10pm on Friday evening in the student accommodation area near the city centre.
A man was taken in by the police for questioning, though he was later released.
Per-Erik Olsson refused to say whether the man was still suspected of involvement in the incident.
"We don't know yet whether a crime has been committed. That will be revealed by the post mortem and the forensic work," he said.
