TV4 files complaint against prosecutor

TV4 has reported chief prosecutor Christer van der Kvast to the Chancellor of Justice following a raid on the station's offices this week.

As chief investigator for corruption matters, van der Kvast is investigating TV4's reporter Anders Pihlblad for bribery after the journalist was photographed entertaining the prime minister's State Secretary Ulrica Schenström at the end of last month.

The aim of the raid was to obtain a copy of the restaurant bill paid, which was paid by TV4.

Reinfeldt's closest aide resigned last week after it emerged that she had been drinking while on call for the government's emergency response organization. She is also being being investigated for accepting a bribe.

In its letter to the state's top legal official, TV4 argued that the prosecutor had ignored principles of proportionality and necessity when deciding to issue a search warrant. The station also wondered why the prosecutor had ordered the raid when the same material was available from the restaurant and the credit card company.

"We think it is important for the Chancellor of Justice to look at this and say whether is is acceptable to act in such a frivolous manner," said TV4 spokeswoman Cecilia Giertta.

During Wednesday's raid, TV4 gave police a copy of Pihlblad's debit card slip, which confirmed what TV4 had already revealed last week - that the bill for the evening amounted to 945 kronor ($147).
