Teen Nazis convicted of brutal murder

Two 16-year-old boys have been convicted of the murder of a physically disabled 55-year-old man, who was killed in his home in Upplands Väsby, 25 kilometres north of Stockholm. The boys were sentenced to 3 and 2.5 years respectively in a juvenile detention centre.

On a single day in June, the teenagers paid three separate visits to the man's apartment. During the last, and fatal, visit they assaulted the victim with a baseball bat and iron bars. They also stabbed him repeatedly as he lay dying.

A third boy, aged 15, has been found guilty of assault. He accompanied the two 16-year-olds on their first visit to the man's home. He was ordered to undergo treatment and perform 110 hours of community service.

The boys are all members of the Nationalsocialistisk Front, a Swedish neo-Nazi group. Police found large amounts of extreme right-wing material on their computers, including films of assaults and murders.

The boys were arrested as they returned to the scene of the crime. A police officer noticed dried blood on their shoes. Among the evidence against the boys is a film, taken using a mobile phone, in which the boys assault their victim before performing a Hitler salute.

According to the verdict from Attunda District Court, the two 16-year-olds were fully aware of the possible consequences of their actions. They had however displayed indifference with regard to the victim's fate.
