The two attackers arrived at the Forex office at the city's Väla shopping mall just before 8pm on Monday. Witnesses say they used explosives to enter the office and fired several shots from automatic weapons.

Nobody was directly injured by the robbers, but one person in a nearby hamburger restaurant was so shocked by events that she needed resuscitating. It was unclear on Tuesday morning how much money the pair made away with.

The two men left the scene through a door at the rear of the mall. Police say a forensic examination of the scene has given them some clues, but add that the getaway car has not been found.

A witness told TT that he and a friend "saw a man in a balaclava helmet standing guard with an automatic weapon. After the explosion he went into the store."

The mall was relatively empty at the time of the robbery.
