Swede jailed for drug smuggling in Morocco

A 20-year-old man from Umeå in northern Sweden has been sentenced to one year in prison in Morocco on drug offences. The man was arrested in the port city of Tanger as he tried to smuggled narcotics out of the country, Västerbottens Folkblad reports.

"We heard about the case on October 4th," said foreign ministry spokeswoman Sofia Karlberg. "The embassy is following the case and reporting back to us."

Ambassador Anna Block-Mazoyer also confirmed that the 20-year-old had been found guilty.

"I think there are currently two Swedish citizens sitting in Moroccan jails for drug smuggling," she said.
